Mark Varney is Director of Food & Network Development at FareShare and leads the teams responsible for FareShare’s supply chain: FareShare’s collaboration with the UK food and logistics sector to source surplus food, FareShare’s warehouse operations and FareShare’s voluntary sector partnerships.
Mark led the development and publication of the innovative FareShare Food Efficiency Framework and represents FareShare at a number of cross-industry working groups on Food Waste Prevention. He works closely with DEFRA and WRAP seeking to develop a policy and financial environment that helps all food businesses to do the right thing with their surplus food.
Mark previously worked for The Fairtrade Foundation, at leading behaviour change agency Corporate Culture, and started his career with Procter and Gamble.
A Chartered Waste Manager, Mark studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Lancaster, Marketing at London Metropolitan Business School and has an MSc in Sustainable Development and Corporate Environmental Management from the University of Surrey.
